Information about kidney stones treatment

The kidney acts as a filter for blood, removing waste from the body and help regulate the levels of chemicals important for body function. The urine drains from the kidney to the bladder through a thin tube called the ureter. Patients should not reduce their calcium intake unless their doctors advised to do so.
Hypocitraturia (low urinary citrate) usually requires a prescribed supplement, such as potassium citrate. The dose depends on the level of citrate urine, which is determined by testing urine for 24 hours. Patients with renal tubular acidosis usually respond well to treatment with potassium citrate supplements. The citrus and lemon juice can also be used as a supplement.
